Getting to 10th Avenue without a detour

The salon sits on 10th Avenue in the West 17th and 18th Street stretch of West Chelsea. The High Line runs just to the west. If you walk it, come down at the nearest stair and you are a couple of minutes away. Most brides arrive late because they come out of the subway on 8th Avenue and underestimate the two long crosstown blocks. Allow ten minutes on foot.

  • SubwayA, C, E or L to 14th Street and 8th Avenue, then walk north and west.
  • BusThe M11 runs up 10th Avenue. The M14 crosstown runs along 14th Street.
  • CarThere is no salon parking. Garages on the side streets fill on Saturdays. A drop-off at the door is simplest.
  • Arriving earlyWait nearby rather than at the door. The bride before you is still on the platform.

Wear something easy to step out of and bring the underwear you plan to wear on the day, or the closest you have. A strapless bra matters for a strapless bodice. So do shoes of roughly the heel height you intend. The stylist has spares, but your own tell us more.

04Veils and finishing

The veil is fitted last, on the gown

Not in a separate trip. It goes on at the final fitting, two weeks out, with your hair roughly as it will be.

Veils, belts and hair pieces are placed at the final appointment because that is the first time the gown, the hem and your shoes are all finished at once. A cathedral length chosen on a bare sample often turns out a hand too long once the train is bustled. We cut and edge it against the real thing.

Silk tulle and nylon tulle look alike on a hanger. They do not behave alike. Silk is softer, falls closer to the body and creases more. Nylon holds its shape and forgives a windy rooftop. We keep both and will tell you which suits the gown. Edges are finished to match: a narrow rolled hem, a horsehair edge for a little lift, or a cut edge with nothing on it for a column in crepe.
